Who this is for
Someone who has been served with a debt collection lawsuit, usually by a company they have never done business with, and who has days rather than weeks to work out what to do.
Most people in that position never respond. That is the single reason most of these cases end the way they do, and it is the one thing this site exists to change.
What we publish
Plain answers to the questions people actually type after being served, organised by the company doing the suing, because the answer genuinely differs. How one debt buyer settles is not how another does, and the documents each can produce are not the same.
Underneath that sit two other layers. Questions whose answer does not change no matter who is suing, written once. And the law of your state, where the deadlines, the exemptions and the defenses actually live.
How it is written
Every legal statement cites the statute or court rule behind it, and every one of those was read from the official text rather than from another website. They are recorded in a registry with the source and the date read, and the site will not build if a page cites anything that is not in it.
That is unusual in this corner of the internet, and it is the main reason to trust a page here over one that says "check your state."
What we will not do
We do not promise outcomes. No settlement percentages, no claims about what will come off your credit report, no numbers about score movement. The tooling that builds this site refuses that language outright, which is a deliberate choice: a page that promises you a result is guessing at a file it has never seen.
We also say plainly when the answer is boring, when the paperwork is probably fine, and when the thing you are afraid of is not actually the thing that will happen. In Oklahoma and Texas, for instance, your home is far better protected from a collection judgment than almost anyone expects.
We are not a law firm
We are not attorneys and we do not take cases. Reading this site does not create an attorney client relationship. Where your own facts matter, and they usually do, talk to a lawyer or your state's legal aid office.
There is more on that, including where to find free help, on the disclaimer page.
Why it exists
Because the gap in these cases is not intelligence or effort. It is that one side files thousands of these a year and the other side is doing it once, frightened, on a deadline, with no idea that answering is free.
Closing that gap is the whole job.
